Some days, you work and work, and then it feels like you need a little picker-upper to give you a little boost of energy to see you through the workday. Sometimes you grab a coffee or a guilty bite of a candy bar, and once the caffeine or sugar rush burns off, you find yourself again depleted. However, if you had grabbed the Word of God or a short prayer walk around the building, you would have seen your energy, emotions, and intellect revived. The Word of God is refreshing to your soul when you allow it to enter your awareness!
Our psalmist says that the statutes of the Lord can be trusted to make even a simple person wise. I so desperately need that reassurance! Some days, I don’t know what I want to do. Other days, I do not know how to do what I know I must do. I don’t have the answers I desperately need. I feel so dumb sometimes. Don’t you?
Listen, the statutes, the Word of God, will make even the simplest person wise. As you read the Word of God, your mind and understanding begin to open up, and Holy Spirit can guide us forward where we were stuck before. The psalmist writes that the precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. I don’t know about you, but I become filled with joy when I do the right thing. Joy wells up in my soul whenever I have an opportunity to live righteous before the Lord.
When you read the Word of God, that is, when you read the promises and principles of the Lord, it gives joy to your heart. If you are feeling sad today, go and get a little bit of God’s Word into your head. Take the “gos-pill.” (smile) Take in the good news in the Bible, and God’s reassuring Presence will transform your sadness!
Finally, it says that the commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. It seems like the Word of God brings brightness to your eyes. Call it sparkle or a glimmer of vibrant energy. Sometimes you feel like you’re stumbling around in the darkness and don’t know what to do. If you put the Word of God in front of you, you’ll begin to read it and think about it. You will be compelled to meditate on it, turning it over repeatedly in your mind. And, suddenly, the light will dawn where there was darkness, and you will have light for your eyes. You will be able to see which way to go next.
The wise person knows that the Word of God is still the best prescription for whatever problem you may have. It contains the treasures of wisdom, strength, and joy for whoever digs in to find it.
Please remember that God’s word is for you, not against you. God’s wisdom will refresh you and brighten your dull eyes!
