The Wise Do Not Fear Bad News Because They Trust In God
Being inundated with bad news does not foster confident faith in God. The more we listen to fear-inducing news on our various screens and devices, the more fear becomes a part of us. Anxiety stresses us out, and we feel like we can walk into a tragic calamity at any moment. It seems like nowhere is safe and peaceful anymore!
Murder, mayhem, and moronic acts of violence play out before our eyes daily as the news media companies of the world prosper from our fears and insecurities. We imagine poverty and living under a bridge as homeless people while we feverishly labor to hang onto our employment. We end up fearing awful news instead of expecting good news, and we lack the faith and confidence we need in God.
We must all be assured that God is not like people. God means what He says, and He intends to keep His promises. God is not a promise-breaker. God is a promise keeper!
Today, the psalmist reminds you and me that the wise do not need to fear bad news. Their hope is in the Lord. The Lord cares for the righteous, and their confidence is in Him. Their confidence is not shaken by the erratic swings of the stock market. Regardless of their challenges, like David facing Goliath, they can expect victory.
It is wise to look to God for your daily news, not the media companies who prosper by selling us fear. Put your faith and confidence in the Lord. If God is for us, who can be against us? When fear shows up for a mid-day or midnight visit, tell fear to get out!
This is what Paul wrote to his protégé, Timothy:
It is wise not to fear bad news when you have placed your trust in God!

Action Steps
- Think about your biggest fear. In prayer, tell God that you choose to lay down your fear at His feet. Choose to put your confident trust in God to help you face your greatest fears. Trust God to help you when you feel weak facing your fears.
- Ask God to give you a gift of faith in the place of your fears. It is the wise thing to do!
