“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” – Hebrews 4:16 New Living Translation

As we saw in a previous article, it is crucial to have a contrite, or humble attitude when you talk to God. Yet, equally important is your confidence in the goodness of God. If God is a good God, which He is, and if He cares deeply about us, which He does, why would He not gladly receive us as we approach His throne? Why would you expect anything less than a positive reception and a generous response to your requests?

Our scripture for today makes it clear that a confident conversation with God, a bold approach as you enter His presence, will result in mercy (not getting the punishment you deserve) and grace (getting the reward you did not earn). This means that confident prayer will lead to amazing results! In fact, Jesus taught His disciples that they could expect joy as a result of their prayers to God the Father:

“You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.” – John 16:24 New Living Translation

We should be so excited to engage God in conversation because we can have high expectations about the resulting outcomes! God loves to see us approach Him with confidence because it shows that we think He is a good Father. Remember the scripture from a previous article:

“You’re at least decent to your own children. So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better?” – Matthew 7:11 The Message Bible

Action Steps:

  1. Bring your requests to God's throne in prayer with new confidence in His goodness.
  2. Believe in His constant willingness to give you everything you need today.
